Amcom On-Call / Paging System

The Amcom on-call scheduling  / paging system allows call center operators as well as authorized users to send pages to all types of paging devices -- including in-house and wide-area pagers, cell phones, and PDAs.  The system's main components are:

  • SmartCenter -- a facility for central management of on-call schedules by a departmental or organizational coordinator;
  • SmartWeb -- a Web utility for individuals to manage their own schedules, as well as to page other individuals;
  • eNotify -- a facility for notification of large groups via customized pager or telephone messages; and
  • SmartConsole -- a computer-telephone interface (CTI) for use by paging operators.

System capabilities

The on-call scheduling / paging system features include:

  • two-way and group paging
  • priority paging escalation, emergency notification and response
  • contact information integrated from multiple directory sources
  • real-time calendar tracks who is on call by name, by function or department(s)
  • meet-me paging with integrated voice recognition software, allowing connection to another person without operator assistance (through voice commands, similar to the Vocera badges)
  • broadcast paging, including pre-recorded, pre-scheduled or ad hoc messages to any number of users (e.g., emergency/disaster activation call trees)
  • detailed logging of all pages and responses

Supported devices

Pagers (beepers)

The system will work with all analog, digital numeric and digital alphanumeric pagers.  Alphanumeric pagers are preferred because of the added information that can be provided to you.

This system does not support voice-only pagers.

Phones

Mobile phones must have SMS (Short Message Service, or, "text messaging") enabled by your cellular service provider.  Some cellular service providers will charge extra for text messaging capabilities (e.g., Cingular requires that you enable "Enterprise Paging").

The following common models of smartphones have been tested as working:

  • Blackberry 7100, 7200, 7500, 7700 and 8700 series
  • Cingular 8125 Pocket PC
  • Treo 650, 700
