Electronic mail, Internet access
Electronic mail
Email is by far the most popular information service on campus. Exchange is the primary campus messaging service, providing email, shared calendar/scheduling and access to the global address directory.
Each Exchange user receives 125 megabytes (MB) of email storage space. Supervisors request Exchange accounts for new employees. Students receive their email accounts via requests from academic departments.
Your email login will be your Medical ID; your email address will be your Medical ID followed by "@med.miami.edu". You may optionally use a "global email alias" to point to your @med.miami.edu address, but it's not necessary. (Read more about that here.)
Internet access
Internet access is just about as important as email. More and more of our information systems and services are accessible over the Internet (via a Web browser).
Internet/Internet2 access is provided to all users of the campus network, with access to the network controlled by your Medical ID as well. For links to additional information on email systems/services and Internet access, click here.
Monitoring and responsible use
Please be aware that, like all campus computer activity, your email and Internet usage is subject to monitoring. Our audit trail software can record everything you do on a computer here, including logins and logouts, email use, file accesses and modifications, etc.
If you need to do personal browsing or emailing -- and want to keep your activities private -- you need to do it at home using your personal computer and a personal email/Internet account.
