Personal "home" file directories

Every network user must have a Medical ID for authentication (proof of identity).  Associated with that ID is a personal file directory, for storage of personal files.  For many reasons -- discussed here -- we recommend you store your critical personal files on this directory rather than on your computer's hard drive.

Files in the personal directory are available only to the assigned owner (Medical ID holder).  We also can provide shared file directories for departments or group projects, accessible to any number of designated persons.

When operating a Windows desktop computer on the medical campus, your personal home directory is automatically "mapped" when you log on to the network with your Medical ID.  For other systems (like Macs), and other locations (such as at home), some manual mapping may be necessary.  See Drive mapping: Frequently Asked QuestionsDrive mapping: Instructions for Macs and Drive mapping: Instructions for Windows or contact the Help Desk for assistance.

Your personal home directory can also be accessed remotely (off-campus) through the Citrix Application Portal (which maps drives automatically) or via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection.

The standard personal home directory size is currently 300 MB (megabytes).  Increases are made on a case by case basis as required.  Please contact the Help Desk to request more space.  Please store only business-related files and information in your home directory.
