On-campus network access

Network access on the medical campus is provided via:

• a wired network -- using standard Ethernet cabling
• a wireless network -- that covers most of the campus with 802.11b/g W-Fi

Wired vs. wireless

The choice between wired and wireless depends on the kind of use you contemplate.  Fixed location devices usually make use of wired connections.  For applications that require very high speed communications, wired connections are usually required.  Portable devices like laptops can make use of either wired or wireless, provided there is no need for very high speeds.  Inherently portable devices, like PDAs, must rely on the wireless network.
