Mail (mail.app)

Function

Mail is Apple's standard email software for Apple/Mac systems -- also known as mail.app.  On the medical campus, Mail is commonly used to access Exchange email.

Access

Mail is client software that is installed on your Apple/Mac system.  It is included with Apple operating systems.

You can also access Exchange email using a webmail utility called Outlook Web Access, that requires only a browser.  (It requires a Medical ID for authentication, as does use of Exchange.)

Documentation

See the Mail Setup Guide (PDF format) for instructions on receiving Medical School Email via IMAP and Exchange.  See also materials on the Apple mail.app site.

Support

Contact the Information Technology Help Desk.

Additional considerations

See the discussion of email clients for Exchange, which includes links to comparisons of alternatives for Windows and Apple/Mac systems.

Mail supports the IMAP email protocol for communication with Exchange.  (MAPI is available only for Outlook client users.)
