Core Services list

Core Services are the technology resources we provide to you, by default, if you are a member of the staff, faculty or student population at Miller School of Medicine.  Please contact the Help Desk or the Adminstration group if you have questions about core services.

  • Network Connectivity at 10, 100 or 1000Mbps (1000Mbps as available; 100Mbps is standard and sufficient where cabling/infrastructure support is available). 

We will provide 1000Mbps uplinks where necessary and requested.  Sufficient network cabling to handle this throughput must already be in place or installed (minimum Category 5E or 6).  As part of this component, you obtain a private, dynamically assigned, Internet Protocol (IP) address and Domain Name Services (DNS).

  • Wireless network access using 802.11b/g (visitor/guest Internet access is available as well). 

802.11a wireless network access will be provided in areas where radio frequency conflicts exist 802.11b/g WLAN frequencies (e.g. biomedical or other business/mission critical equipment).

Access to utilize environmentally controlled and secured datacenters, which are monitored 24x7 by your IT teams and the Department of Security.  IT will maintain your equipment and manage local/remote connectivity, data backup and disaster recovery operations.

Access to utilize tape library facilities for backup/restoration processes.  Tapes are routinely rotated through each week and stored at a secure off-site location.  Our team manages all core backup and restore operations at this facility.

The procurement assistance team ready to guide and assist you in acquiring any IT hardware/software.  This team will handle quoting, orders, tracking, receipt and delivery for you.  Delivery of computers/laptops is coordinated with the Desktop Support team to ensure proper network setup and configuration for the Medical Center network.

  • WebMeeting: web-based, real-time audio/video web collaboration.  Share files, presentations, conduct video conferencing and more.
